Quests, XP, streaks, and achievements

The progression system. Daily and weekly quests built from your own games pay vespene and XP, your analysed games pay XP, three uncapped level tracks (Retail, Patch Clash, SC: Evo) keep climbing, streaks reward showing up, and 34 achievements count the study you actually do.

Progression and currenciesUpdated 2026-10-05

Vespene's progression pays for getting better, not for piling up uploads. Quests turn your own weak spots into targets you can hit, and the achievements count the study you actually do: reviewing your losses, asking the coach, writing notes, clearing quests.

Everything lives on the Progress view of the The study desk: your level and XP, the XP you earned this week, your day streak, quests cleared, and every achievement with its progress. The desk's bar shows your level, streak and quests at a glance, and the ME button at the top left of the site wears your XP ring. Level is derived from total XP and has no cap: there is always a next level.

Three level tracks#

You level up on up to three separate tracks, and they never mix:

Track What fills it
Retail The analysis of your own SC2 games and your SC2 quests
Patch Clash Your ranked and unranked Patch Clash games (Clash XP) and your Patch Clash quests
SC: Evo The same for the SC: Evo ladder, if you can see it

Retail levels follow 100 x (L - 1)^2 total XP, so level 50 is 240,100 XP and level 100 is 980,100. The ladder tracks use the Clash curve (see Clash XP and the season prize pool). The Progress view's Level card follows the desk's world switch: on SC2 it shows your Retail level, on Patch Clash your Patch Clash level. A strip under it shows every track you have, so the others are one glance away. The desk's bar shows the same level as the card.

Quests#

Two kinds, both built from your own games, and both paying vespene as well as XP.

Daily quests (improvement). You hold three at a time. Each is a goal in one matchup, taken from where your games are weakest: workers at 3:00 or 5:00, when your natural or third goes down, when your first scout leaves, how much of the game you spend supply blocked, or how closely you follow your practice build. The target comes from your own recent games: a step better than your usual, never better than your own best, and never past the pro line. You need at least five games in the matchup before a fair target can be set. Hit the target in 3 of any 5 games in a row and the quest clears, paying +5 vespene and 100 XP.

  • A cleared daily is replaced at once, up to 10 cleared dailies a day.
  • At the end of your day, a daily with at least one hit is carried over ("Carried over: finish it or drop it") and keeps its slot until you finish it or drop it. One with no hits is replaced by a fresh one the next time you look.
  • You can pick your own: Accept quest on a finding on the desk's Today view turns it into a daily, counted from the moment you pick it.
  • Patch Clash players get dailies in the Patch Clash world too, in rough proportion to how much of each you play. Those come from your Patch Clash games only (workers, bases and supply block), measured against your own Patch Clash games and never against a pro line. A Patch Clash game never counts toward an SC2 daily, and an SC2 game never counts toward a Patch Clash one. A Patch Clash quest's XP goes to your Patch Clash level, never your Retail one; its vespene is paid the same.

Weekly quests (consistency). Three a week, drawn from the ones you can do, each paying +25 vespene and 300 XP:

Weekly quest Notes
Play 60 games Any mode, team games and Patch Clash included
Win 35 games
Play 25 games of Patch Clash Only offered if you play Patch Clash
Play 8 games as an off-race Any race but the one you play most
Win 12 games in your most-played matchup The matchup is named on the quest, for example "Win 12 TvP games"

The week runs Monday to Sunday in your local time. Weeklies do not refill: drop one and its slot stays empty until next week.

How quests count. Quests are dealt when you look at them: the desk's Today and Progress views, the quests row on the Command Console's Home tab, and the STUDY screen on a phone. They count the games you play from that moment on, so open one of those at the start of a session. Only your own games count (a replay marked as casted never does), a game counts once it has been uploaded and analysed, and one replay counts once even if you upload it again. Press a quest's tile on the desk to see its target, your recent games against it, and Drop. Clearing a weekly plays the QUEST CLEARED screen; a daily clears quietly, with a toast and a CLEARED stamp on its tile.

What pays XP#

Action XP
Analysis of one of your uploaded SC2 games (base) 50, plus bonuses below
Clear a daily quest 100, to the quest's own track
Clear a weekly quest 300, to the quest's own track
Upload a replay 0, on purpose

Replay-analysis XP scales with quality: executing your build cleanly adds up to 100 more, scoring well above what your own MMR band usually manages adds a large bonus, and improving on your own recent form adds a flat one. A daily soft cap halves gains once you have racked up a lot of events in one day, so marathon sessions taper instead of printing.

Reviewing a loss, asking the coach and writing notes pay no XP: anything that paid per click would be farmed. They count toward achievements instead.

A balance-mod game earns no Retail XP: ranked ladder play fills that ladder's own track (Clash XP, an uncapped level track per ladder); see Clash XP and the season prize pool. The tracks do not mix, and none of them decides your ranked league, which comes from your standing.

Streaks#

Your streak counts consecutive calendar days (your local time) on which you uploaded at least one game. Miss a day and the streak starts again from one. Milestones at 7, 14, 30, 60, and 100 days come with a notification. The longest streak you have ever held is tracked next to the current one.

Achievements#

There are 34: twenty-five general ones plus a "{Matchup} Analyst" badge for each of the nine matchups, earned by reviewing 20 of your losses in it. The general ones:

  • Study: review 1, 10, 50 and 200 of your losses (from "First Pass" to "Deep Study"). A review is opening one of your own losses from the desk, in its Games view or from Today; each replay counts once.
  • Coach: ask the AI coach 1 and 25 questions, from the desk's rail or the replay coach.
  • Quests: clear 1, 25 and 100 quests ("First Clear", "Steady Climb", "Relentless"), dailies and weeklies alike.
  • Notes: write 1, 10 and 50 notes of your own (the site's automatic scouting notes do not count).
  • Consistency: hold a 3, 7, 30 and 100-day streak.
  • Uploads: upload 1, 20 and 100 replays.
  • Progression: reach Retail levels 5, 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 (from "Apprentice" to "Centurion").

Unlocks are permanent and notify you once, and the Progress view shows how far along you are on every one.

The honest caveats#

  • Uploads pay nothing by themselves. Quests and the analysis of your own games do, and the achievements are aimed at the loss you did not want to rewatch.
  • Your streak and your quests run on your local day and week, but the AI coach's free-prompt allowance resets at midnight UTC. Two different clocks; do not let the coach counter convince you your day rolled over.
  • There is no top level and no prestige: the levels keep going. Level 50 used to be the top; an account that sat there shows its real level now.
