The AI coach

A coach that has actually read your games. Ask it anything from the rail of the study desk, where it knows what you are looking at, or open it on top of a replay, where it can see the game state at your playhead.

Coaching and analysisUpdated 2026-10-02

Vespene's AI coach is wired into the same data the rest of the site runs on: your uploaded games and their analysis, the pro replay corpus, the per-matchup build guides, timing benchmarks, and the player database. That grounding is the point. Ask "why did I lose my last TvP" and it reads your actual last TvP.

Where to find it#

The desk's coach lives in the right-hand rail of the The study desk (on a smaller window, behind the Coach and notes button). It used to be the Coach in the Command Console's Library tab, and before that the Dashboard lane's Coach's desk; old links to either land on the desk. It works on whatever the desk is showing: open an opponent's dossier, a game, a matchup or your form, and the coach is told what is on screen, so "how do I beat this player" means this player. Its Reads your notes switch lets it read your study notes when it answers. It offers a few suggestion chips and takes free-form questions. This is the general-purpose surface: strategy questions, build advice, "what should I practice".

The replay coach lives inside the replay viewer: an "AI Coach" button floats over the canvas whenever you have a replay open in playback. This one goes deeper into a single game than the desk's coach can. Its header chip tracks the matchup and your current playhead time, and its answers can use the replay itself: what is happening right now, where armies are, which buildings are proxied, how each fight went, who is ahead on economy and why. Suggestion chips get you started ("What's happening right now?", "What should they scout?", "Show me similar replays to study").

The replay coach needs you signed in. The desk's coach answers signed out too, from pro games, guides and game knowledge, but it sees nothing of yours until you sign in. The transcript in the replay coach resets when you load a different replay, which is what you want; the conversation is about this game.

What it can actually do#

Beyond conversation, the coach has real tools it uses mid-answer:

  • Your data: your stats and recent games, a specific game's analysis, your common mistakes.
  • The corpus: search pro games, pull the archetype build guide for a matchup (win rates, timings, scouting patterns distilled from a thousand-plus games), timing benchmarks per building and upgrade, and player lookups (MMR, race, aliases, smurf accounts).
  • The open replay (replay coach only): engagements with supply lost and outcome, unit positions at a timestamp, building placements with proxy detection, micro analysis per fight, losses, and economy stats.
  • Game knowledge: units, tech, and the current patch and balance context, so its advice tracks the live meta rather than a stale one.

When it recommends a game to study, it can attach a REPLAY card with a "▶ Watch this replay" button that swaps the viewer to that game in place. Answers with build orders render as proper tables, not walls of text.

Cost#

The first 5 prompts each day are free; after that a prompt costs 1 vespene (one cent). Each coach shows the counter ("3 free today" in the desk's rail, "3 free prompts left today" in the replay coach's footer), then the price and your balance. The day resets at midnight UTC.

The charge is taken before the model runs and refunded automatically if the answer fails or comes back empty. If you are out, the answer bubble says so and offers the Support modal. Clearing quests refills your balance; see Vespene (the currency).

Getting better answers#

  • Be specific about the game. In the replay coach, scrub to the moment first; the coach knows your playhead and answers about that minute, not the game in general.
  • Ask for the study plan, not just the verdict. "What should I drill from this loss" produces a drill list; the coach can cite the guide steps and benchmarks it wants you to hit.
  • Use it on losses. Open a loss from the desk's Games view and ask the replay coach about it; ask it to find the turning point and argue with it if you disagree.

One honest limitation: the coach's memory is the conversation you are in. Nothing is saved, so a page reload starts you over. Anything worth keeping, put in your intel notes (Intel and notes).
