Home and the four lanes
The site is four lanes, each a whole side of it: Watch, Compete, Study, and Stats. On a desktop they sit in the top bar with their pages beside them; on a phone they are a dock along the bottom. Your own study lives on the Study lane's desk, your account in the Command Console.
Vespene is four lanes, each one a whole side of the site, and each lane is a set of pages. Landing on the site puts you on Watch's Featured page.
The four lanes and their pages:
- Watch (red): Featured (a spotlight game, who is live, and rows picked for you), Live (streams) and Replays (the whole public archive). Its button carries a live dot when channels are up. See The Watch hub.
- Compete (green): Patch Clash (the ranked War Room; SC: Evo appears beside it if you have access) and Tournaments (the hub). Entering the lane lands on the ranked War Room.
- Study: Desk, the one workspace for studying your own play (your focus, quests, form, grades, games, opponents, intel, notes and progress; see The study desk), and Builds, the build library (The Build tab).
- Stats: Rankings (the pro explorer and ladders; see Ranks and the leaderboard), Balance (the balance report) and Maps (what happens on each map, per matchup). Stats is about everyone; your own numbers are on the Study desk. This lane used to be called Leaderboard, and your personal MY STATS page moved from it to the desk.
Everything browses signed out. Study's Builds page is public, and its Desk shows a guest an example of what it will do for you, next to the pro timings for a matchup, with a prompt to join.
There used to be a fifth lane, Dashboard. It is retired: your stats, games, intel and coach now live on the Study desk, and your stream tools and settings in the Command Console. Where the Dashboard went maps each old piece to its new home.
The top bar (desktop)#
On a desktop one bar runs along the top of every page:
- ME, at the top left: the Vespene mark inside your XP ring, with your level. It opens your menu: your account and wallet, your friends, the calendar and What's new, doors to My stats, My games, Broadcast, Settings and this library, display settings, and signing out.
- Back and forward arrows step through your in-app history.
- The lanes, each with its pages right after it. The lane you are in shows its pages, with a marker under the one you are on. Rest the mouse on another lane for a second and its pages open in the bar too, one click away.
- Dashboard, after the lanes: the Command Console as a page (Home, Broadcast, Settings, Wiki). See The Command Console (F10).
- On the right: a status slot (a match found, your live match, your ranked queue clock, or a live event you follow), the Search field (Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on a Mac), your wallet, and the bell (your notifications and inbox).
Two settings in the console's Settings tab, under Display, change the layout: Lane switcher (the top bar, or a dock along the bottom) and Lane pages (in the bar, or framed on the page). In the replay viewer, the ranked War Room and the map draft, the bar steps aside for a slim one that fades while you watch.
On a phone#
On a phone (under 768px wide) the site is laid out as its own app. A bar across the top carries a back arrow on deeper pages, the page title, search, notifications, and your avatar wearing its XP ring, which opens your menu. A floating dock along the bottom holds Watch, Compete, ◈, Study and Stats; the ◈ in the middle is your own home (your level and streak, your latest games, what is next and who is live). Swipe sideways to step between dock slots. Deeper pages open under the same bar and dock with the right lane lit, and your phone's back gesture steps back out of them.
Navigation model, briefly#
Deep links always work: a shared bracket URL, a replay link, a player profile or a desk view opens its screen directly, no lane spelunking required.
By design, arriving at Compete from its lane button drops you on the ranked War Room (the daily-driver screen), while the explicit Tournaments page opens the browse hub. They are one click apart in both directions.
